This ocean-front hangout is known for its strong cocktails and Island Beef Burger, or as one reviewer put it, “The bartenders mean business,” and “The cook can cook.” Settle into a seat at the bar and chat with the locals while sipping on a Mauna Lani Splash. Open daily 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
The Bay Terrace, (68-1400 Mauna Lani Drive, Kohala Coast, HI) known for its spectacular breakfast buffet, also offers a prime rib and seafood buffet every Friday night. This open air restaurant with its friendly staff and chirping birds is a great place to start your morning. Try the poi pancakes with macadamia nuts and coconut syrup or be adventurous and try their Japanese breakfast of broiled salmon, steamed rice, and dashimaki tamago (sweet egg). Open daily 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM and Friday evenings 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM.
The Canoe House (68-1400 Mauna Lani Drive, Kohala Coast, HI) offers elegant farm-to-table cuisine in a beautiful open-air venue looking out over the Pacific. The chefs create dishes that use fresh island ingredients and you can taste the difference. Start with seared foie gras and move on to a grass-fed porterhouse steak. This world-class restaurant has amazing sunsets, specialty martinis, and food you won’t soon forget. Open every evening from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
